Research

Areas of research: Internet, political campaigning via web, Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), pragmatics.

Thesis research: “Persuasive Communication Online: the Analysis of Political Discourse of Italian National Parties”.

The research focuses on the following questions:

  1. How effectively politicians persuade their audiences to vote;
  2. How online persuasion differs from that used by the traditional media (newspapers);
  3. What role culture plays in the type of political persuasion;
  4. How the possibility of negotiation is illustrated in political discourse.

The project under analysis can add knowledge by studying political discourse not from a single perspective of one discipline but in an interdisciplinary way, so as to allow cross-fertilization of research fields.

The research will contribute originality to the subject area, as it will enable us to validate socio-linguistic methods of discourse analysis, such as qualitative methods of critical discourse analysis (CDA), in the field of political communication.

We will apply discourse analysis methods, such as CDA, analysis of arguments, analysis of rhetorical and dialectical components of discourse and strategic maneuvering, to our text analysis.
