Interests

I have been focusing on the history of science all through my studies and more specifically in the history of psychiatry and psychoanalysis. I am interested in philosophical and historical debates on the birth and development of human sciences, in epistemology and method issues related to the comparison of human sciences and exact sciences – with special emphasis on scientific observation – and in the questions arisen in the theory of knowledge with the coming of sociology of science.

My present research work aims at the reconstruction of one amongst the most complex and scientifically bright characters in ethnopsychiatry: George Devereux, whose work is mainly devoted to the foundation of a new epistemology and of a new method of observation for human sciences, starting from the main innovations in epistemology introduced by quantum mechanics into the theory of knowledge. Brought up as a scientist by Jean Perrin and Marie Curie, Devereux - anthropologist, analyst, sociologist, hellenist - is a key interlocutor to a number of nineteenth-century intellectual traditions and as such, he is of great aid in spotting out their virtues, their chances for further evolution and their limits.
